We are passionate about the work we do and need equally committed members on our team to help us achieve those goals.

Dudley Young Carers Service offers 8-18 year olds respite from their caring role. Young carers are children who help care for someone within their family. That person maybe parents, siblings, grandparent or other relative who may be affected by physically disability, mental health conditions, substance misuse, any long term illness etc. The service offers free transport to and from the centre. Confidential one-one support, information and advice, an activity break, make friends and have fun.

What we are looking for:

For group sessions/activities

• Be part of the team.
• Be committed to supporting a group once a fortnight (evening).
• Offer support to the young carers and work alongside them during group sessions/activities/outings.
• Be positive and encouraging to the young people.
• Report any concerns to your point of contact.

For individual work
• Meet with a young carer on a regular basis.
• Provide support and information at an age appropriate level.
• Collect and return the young person from home where required.
• Produce written reports on all meetings with the young person ensuring accuracy and confidentiality at all times.
• Be available for supervision sessions and relevant training.
• Report any concerns to your point of contact.

Person Specification
• Ability to communicate with young people.
• Good listening skills.
• Enthusiastic, friendly, caring and non judgemental.
• Ability to use own initiative but also be part of a team.
• Commitment to the service

•Provide a full induction and all training necessary for your volunteering role
•Provide a named supervisor for you, with regular supervision meetings
•Treat you, and all volunteers, in-line with our equal opportunities policy
•Reimburse volunteers for out-of-pocket expenses
•Provide insurance cover for volunteers
•Ensure the place you work in is safe
Please note that the term ‘young carers’ includes young adult carers up to the age of 25.
