The Place Faringdon

The Place is ‘the place’  for families in Faringdon with 0-5 year olds to find information, groups and peer support.

The friendly team at The Place Faringdon provide sessions and support for expectant mums, new parents and babies, parents of toddlers and young children up to 5, to get the best start in life.

A welcoming space has been created in the Corn Exchange building, for local families to make friends and learn together, finding support from each other as well as from the staff team and others, including midwives and health visitors.

Our current programme includes:

  • Play groups and sessions for babies and children with their parents/carers
  • Breastfeeding support and advice
  • Antenatal groups and parenting courses
  • Sensory room for quiet time with your child
  • Clothes library
  • Monthly sessions for dads to connect and chat
  • Visits to the older generation to sing, play and share experiences
  • Cycle Park outdoor activity
  • Support with the transition to school

The Place in partnership with Spurgeons

The service is a partnership between Spurgeons and Faringdon Town Council and has been developed from the Spurgeons Together with Families programme.

Spurgeons first worked with Churches Together in Faringdon in 1998, helping to set up Faringdon Family Centre based at the Baptist Church. This later became a Children's Centre under Oxfordshire County Council, continuing to be run by Spurgeons until 2013.

Concerned by the gap in local family support following the closure of the Children's Centres in Oxfordshire, Faringdon Town Council and members of Churches Together approached Spurgeons to develop a new offer for local families with babies and young children. The Place continues a partnership between Faringdon and Spurgeons which spans a quarter of a century.

I always feel positive leaving this group. I don’t feel like I’m being judged.

Colleagues at The Place would be happy to answer any questions you might have about the family support services provided to families in Faringdon. Please use the contact details below to get in touch.
