our accountability policy
- We are accountable to our service users, the communities we work with, the Local Authorities and other funders who commission us to carry out services and our supporters who enable our work to take place through their generous donations.
- We constantly strive to improve our efficiency and effectiveness, use donations and grants for their intended purpose and look for the best ways to use and maximise the funds entrusted to us.
- In 2009, 96% of Spurgeons expenditure went on direct charitable activities.
- We are a member of the Fundraising Standards Board and adhere to the Codes of Practice they set out, meaning our supporters can give to us with confidence that their donation will be used in the best possible way as they intended.
- We are audited by specialist charity auditors haysmacintyre, who carry out an interim audit to review our systems and procedures and a final audit to check the statutory accounts.
- We operate a wide range of policies and procedures to ensure best practice and compliance with the law, covering everything from data protection to safeguarding, and from budgeting to the environment.
