a gift in your Will
making dreams come true
When we think of the kind of dreams young people have we might think that they all want to win X Factor or be a regular on Eastenders or play for Manchester United, but for the children and young people that we work with their dreams are more down to earth. Often, what they would call a dream is something that for many of us, and our children, is just the reality of daily life.
Including Spurgeons in your Will will help us continue our vital work alongside these children, and help to make their dreams come true.
Making a Will is a great opportunity to think about what is important to you and to ensure your wishes are carried out.

For over 140 years Spurgeons has been blessed to receive thousands of bequests which have allowed us to continue working with the children and young people who need us most. Over all these years we have continued our work with determination, professionalism and hope in the future.
Make a stand for this generation and the next, include Spurgeons in your Will and leave a positive, lasting impact.
Making a will is essential, whatever your age, to ensure your family and friends are provided for and to ensure your money and possessions are distributed according to your wishes. Do remember to update your Will on a regular basis or when significant events happen in your life, for example, marriage, divorce, bereavement or the arrival of children or grandchildren.
easy steps
These steps will help you prepare for your meeting with a good solicitor:
Step 1
Prepare a list of all your assets and liabilities
Prepare a list of all your financial details (banks accounts, stocks and shares etc...)
Step 2
List the family, friends and charities you want to include in your Will
Decide what type of legacy you want to leave, obviously a residuary legacy (percentage of your estate) does not devalue with time.
Including Spurgeons in an existing will
If you have already made a Will and want to make some amends, there is no need to rewrite your Will, just complete a codicil.
However, if significant changes are to be made, we advise that you contact your solicitor to redraft your Will.
Thank you for your interest in leaving a legacy to Spurgeons. Please do get in contact with us if you want to chat things through.

any questions?
Why make a will?
- You have the opportunity to decide what happens to your property and possessions after your death
- You have to opportunity to provide for family, friends and charities
- You have the opportunity to appoint an executor
- You have the opportunity to appoint a guardian for any children under 18
- You have the opportunity to reduce or even avoid Inheritance Tax
Who should write my will?
At Spurgeons we would always recommend that you seek advice from a solicitor, if possible a solicitor who specialises in Probate Law.
What happens if I do not make a Will?
If you die without making a Will, you die intestate. This means your property and possessions may be divided against your wishes. The Inland Revenue can claim up to 40% of your estate as Inheritance Tax. Children under 18 may be put in care.
Won't everything just go to my spouse?
Strict rules follow if you die intestate. There is an order of who will inherit what, if you have children, your spouse may not inherit everything you wish.
Can I give money to Spurgeons in my will?
Yes please. But only by making a Will can any charity receive a bequest. You can leave the charity either a percentage of your estate or a set amount or a specific item. Leaving a legacy to Spurgeons is a great way to save on Inheritance Tax as well as supporting all our children and young people.
