Gok's Teens: The Naked Truth

Gok Wan

Thank you so much for responding to Gok's Teens: The Naked Truth. Gok was really moved by the stories of young people who dedicate their lives to caring for someone else. He could see how important it was for Spurgeons, and organisations like us, to support these exceptional young people – to listen to them, advise them and let them know that they are not alone.

Young carers like Michael, Ben and Victoria can spend up to 50 hours a week caring for a relative – and they still have to go to school and keep on top of homework. This dedication leaves little time for playing computer games, seeing friends or going to parties - very little time to just be a child.

You can hear Michael and Ben talking to Joanne Malin at BBCWM about being a young carer and making the show with Gok. Victoria, Gail and Ronnie have also been interviewed about their experience on the JVS Show on BBC Three Counties Radio.

Spurgeons Young Carers projects give young carers the time out that they need to be with others who understand their situation, to let off steam and to have the childhood that they deserve.
